Water contaminants common to Arizona
Naturally occurring contaminants are found in all sources of drinking water. Some of these include arsenic, radon and uranium. People, animals and industry can also contaminate our water supply. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL's) and does not consider most contaminants to be harmful at low levels. Some of the more commonly found contaminants include pesticides, microorganisms and nitrates.
Arsenic
High concentrations of arsenic are more widespread in the West making contamination a concern for some parts of Arizona. Read More
Chlorine
Chlorine saves countless lives each year by reducing bacterial contamination. However, the chemical by-products resulting from chlorine use creates potential adverse health effects. Read More
Toxicity characterization Leaching procedure (TCLP)
TCLP is caused by a toxic build-up in pipes that may over time leach back into your household water supply causing a spike in contamination levels. Read More
Radon
Radon gas is formed by the natural decay of radium, which results from the decay of uranium. Both Radium and uranium are very common elements present in Arizona soils and rock. Read More
